In 2008-2009 Arghyam conducted an extensive household survey of water and sanitation in rural Karnataka, covering 17,200 households and 172 Gram Panchayats.

This toolkit captures lot of the documents and processes that went into doing the survey. It is meant as a reference for anyone else who would like to understand how such a survey can be conducted or who would like to conduct a survey themselves.

The toolkit contains:

• Household, Gram Panchayat and Village level Questionnaires in English and Kannada

• State Report Card in English and Kannada

• Introduction to the survey

• Procedure for testing water

• Some photographs taken during the survey
