Groundwater Information System - Data on groundwater quality and level for all states of India from 2005-09 from the Central Groundwater Board

This data application developed by the Central Groundwater Board provides groundwater level and quality information for all states of India, for the years 2005-09.

 

Steps to access the data:

  1. Go to this link.
  2. Towards the top of the menu, click on the type of data you need - (Ground) Water Level Data or (Ground) Water Quality Data.
  3. Choose the State, District and Year for which you need the data - Note that data is not available for all states and districts. Data is available for most part from 2005-09.
  4. Water Level data is provided for various sites within a district, and for each month of the year, along with an yearly average water level figure.
  5. Water Quality data is provided along the following parameters for various sites within a district - Magnesium (Mg), pH (Acidity / Basicity), Potassium (K), Nitrate, Sulphate, Electrical Conductivity, Calcium (Ca), Sodium (Na), Carbonate, Bicarbonate, Chloride, Flouride, Sodium Absorption Ratio (SAR) and Residual Sodium Carbonate (RSC). Only one data point is provided for one year.
  6. You can export the data in Excel and Word formats. The links to view a graph and map of the data, however do not work.

Note: The unit for depth to groundwater is meters.
