While the three anicuts on the Mahanadi are hampering its free flow, another one is being planned by the government.

Gopal Nishad, a fisherman in his early 40s, is frustrated that there is hardly any fish left in the Mahanadi’s basin at Pitaibandh due to the lack of water in the basin. This basin is located near Rajim-Nawapara in Chhattisgarh, the proposed site for the fourth anicut on the Mahanadi. He reminisces the good old days when he, along with his brother, used to catch plenty of fish from the Mahanadi.

Hi,

We have an query regarding compression pump / submersible pump for domestic use in our native place. We have shallow installed which is currently working via Hand pump. The shallow / bore well is 600 feet deep, with 70 - 80ft 4in pipe and remaining 520-530 ft in 2in pipe. During summer water levels go below 70 ft. This makes the handpump very difficult to operate.

This study finds that smallholder farmers who undertake group micro irrigation through pooling of land and water resources greatly benefit through increase in productivity and profit margins.

Agriculture is of central importance to India’s economy with more than half of the workforce in the country depending on it for their livelihoods. However, it is increasingly being threatened due to climate-change-induced changing rainfall patterns and water scarcity having a negative impact on production.

What is the exhibition about

The river Ganga forms one of the most densely populated river basins in the world. It is also a highly engineered hydrological super-surface. Human activity combined with the dynamic nature of the monsoons has resulted in the river undergoing radical physical changes every year. For any future directive regarding the development and management of the Ganga to be effective, capturing this dynamism is essential.

Namaste,

Our borewell report indicates the following : - 450 feet depth - 180 feet water - 2.75" yield, Currently, there is no tank, but let us assume that there will be a overhead tank around 50 feet higher.

Questions :

- What would be the submersible pump specification needed?

- What power is needed to support the pump (e.g. if diesel generator)?

Hi,

I recently got a borewell done. The entire depth of the borewell is 145 feet. We also got submersible installed which is at a depth of 85 feet. After three months, we noticed that just below the submersible, the entire borewell is full. Can anybody suggest what caused this? We consulted the person who dug the borewell and he suggested that it needed to be cleaned using a compressor. The compressor hoewever not able to clean it and the operator after half an hour of operation said that his compressor will not be able to clean the borewell.

An innovative project makes rainwater harvesting easier and more effective in certain areas of Mewat village with increased groundwater salinity.

One of the major causes of deterioration of water quality is the increase in overall salinity. Total hardness and the presence of materials like fluoride, nitrate, iron, arsenic, and toxic metal ions determine salinity levels in groundwater. With the demand for groundwater growing rapidly, its exploitation is also accelerating which causes depletion. Depletion of groundwater changes the flow (both direction and velocity) of the groundwater which may cause the inflow of polluted water into the freshwater aquifer from surrounding areas.

A water supply scheme based on solar power solves the lack of availability of water in a village.

The Makhala village is located in the Amravati district in the southwestern Satpura mountain ranges. Situated at 959 m above mean sea level, this Maharashtra village has 352 households with a population of 1045. Although accessible by road in all seasons, the village is isolated and surrounded by forests. The nearest village is Semadoh at a distance of 12 km. Needless to say, the power supply is still miles away in this village.
