Dear Experts,

We are an apartment of 20 flats in 5 floors. Of late we observed that the pump takes ages (more than 7-8 hours) to fill the tank and is consuming more than 40 units per day. The height for pumping water (sump floor to overhead tank top) is around 85 feet and the tank capacity is 10,000 Liters. The existing pump is 1 hp (Single phase) with a discharge pipe of 1inch dia. What could be the root cause for such dismal performance of the pump?

An e-commerce platform selling water pumps has big plans for India but will they be able to buck the trend of incurring heavy losses that other online stores face?

The increasing gap in water availability in India has encouraged the growth of the water industry. Be it the bottling sector, filtration or wastewater recycling, all segments related to water are seeing a phenomenal upsurge. The sector is expected to receive investments of Rs 18,000 crore in the next three years according to a study conducted by the consultancy firm EA Water. No wonder then that e-commerce platforms are also vying for their share of the pie!

What will it take for the Haryana government to switch 7 lakh groundwater pumps to solar powered options so it can lower its energy footprint and contain losses in the energy sector?

Haryana's agriculture sector uses seven lakh tubewells, most of which are connected to the grid as the state has a policy of providing highly subsidised electricity to farmers costing Rs. 6200 crore a year. As a result, groundwater exploitation is rampant. Per data by the Groundwater Department, most districts here have witnessed a critical fall in their groundwater table of 7.29 meters, on average, between 2000 and 2012.

The city's old wells and baodis are running dry, and the Yamuna is getting more polluted by the day. Where is Delhi's water going to come from when groundwater levels are also dropping?

Delhi, home to 16.75 million people, is in the grip of a major water crisis. Statistics by the Delhi Jal Board for the year 2011 suggest that the water deficit stands at about 250 million gallons per day with the supply being 830 million gallons per day. Unaccounted for water--the gap between the water produced and distributed--is as high as 40-45%.

Hi

I have a 6 inch borewell, with discharge of 1.5-2 inches water.  Water was first struck at 150 feet and the borewell is dug to a dept of 800 feet.

What is the ideal HP of the motor to be installed and at what depth must this be done for optimum utilization and less power consumption for agriculture purpose.

Regards

Dear Experts,

I have a borewell in my house at KR Puram, Bangalore. The depth is about 580 feet. Rock was hit at around 107ft and the casing is done upto 110 feet. The submersible pump is fixed at 440ft which is of 4 h.p. I have encountered some loose gaps and boulders @ 320 and 420 ft respectively, and I have inserted slotted pipes for the entire well to get rid of the possible issues with loose gap and boulders. I have used the borewell for my house construction without any problem for almost an year. Now from the past few days, water from borewell is muddy.

Hi,

I had drilled a borewell for 400 feet in June'15. There was an existing borewell at the same place for 80 feet, but that was not yielding enought water during summer, hence i drilled it further to 400 feet. However it is still not yielding the desired result. The water coming out of the borewell is very less.I had used 2hp compressor motor and it has to lift the water to the 3rd floor where i have an overhead tank.
