Dead fish floating on the Ennore water creek are the least of the locals worries. Toxic metals, which are poisonous, radioactive and cancerous are a far greater concern.

Chennai's Fort St.George, built in 1644, was the first English fortress to be built in India. It laid the foundation for further settlements around it and the city of Madras gradually expanded around the fort over the years.

The city was divided into two sections- 'White town', that was occupied by the English settlers and 'Black Town', consisting of non-Catholics and Indian minorities. Present day North Chennai falls under 'Black town'. Unfortunately, this part of Chennai is still called Black town, and is highly congested and primarily an industrial and business area. (1) (2)

Hi Sir,

We have a large apartment where we use STP to treat sewage water.  Currently we don't have ways to let out the treated water , even after using for gardening there is huge amount of water which we have to transport that leads to increased cost.

Can we use soak pits to drain this treated water? If we can, what is the length , breadth of a soak pit for draining 25000 litres of treated water.  Kindly help to provide some solution which can be used .

Thanks & Regards

Jayaraman Krishnamurthy

Hi,

Ten days ago we have dug a borewell 500 feet deep. It is a 6.5" borewell, when we dug the bore we found less water. in the next day we found water at 450 feet. Yesterday we tested again and found water atin 35 feet and water was clear. Can we go for submersible pump in this case? Please advise advantages and disadvantages of submersible motor over compressor motor.  Herewith I am attaching the soil test report for your reference.

Deltas sinking, thanks to dams

Major Indian deltas like the Ganga-Brahmaputra and the Krishna-Godavari are sinking because of proliferation of large dams that starve deltas of sediment, groundwater mining that causes land compaction and artificial embankments that affect river courses
