QUESTION
Monoblock water pump in an apartment in Pune , Maharashtra , causing noise & vibration - Need a way out

Hello All,

I live in Pune in an apartment having two buildings. One is 8 storeyed (Building H) & the other is 5 (Building I). I live on the first floor of building H.

There is only one underground water tank which lies exactly below my flat. The corporation water is stored in this tank & with the use of water pump, it is lifted to the overhead water tanks of both the buildings (H & I).

The water pump used is monoblock & a very old one (almost 10 years). It is fitted in an enclosed room right beneath my flat. It makes terrible noise & vibrates. It runs for almost 6-8 hours a day. The worst is that only me & my family are exposed to the noise pollution & the vibration. Therefore no society member is really very interested in helping me out or resolving the issue.

Two year back, after much persuasion, the society committee accepted my request to install a submersible pump in the water tank. (I have paid Rs. 5000 also as a contribution even though it is the responsibility of the society to foot the complete bill!)

It is a Kirloskar pump of 7.5 HP power. The pipe (Say ‘L’) which lifted the water from the S. pump is of 3 inches & once it comes out of the water tank, it was connected through some T formation of pipes to the other pipe which carries the water (say ‘C’) to the overhead tanks of both the buildings. This next set of pipes is 1.5 inches in size.

Initially we used PVC type pipe for this ‘L’ pipe. But due to the force of the water from the 7.5 HP S. pump & the subsequent obstruction to the force due to the 1.5 inch carrier pipe, the PVC pipe got torn vertically within the first week of use. So the vendor replaced the PVC pipe with a metal one. This led to the resumption of the same problem of the terrible noise. So he tried to find some other solution but all was in vain.

Now the position is that we have started utilizing the monoblock pump without any help in site. As already mentioned in para 3, this has become very serious issue for me & my family. I am not a technical person but trying to find some solution on my own.

I am eagerly looking forward to some concrete help from all of the members / users of this community. Please help.

Thanks & Regards,

Govind Gogate
