The World Bank’s new Open Data Initiative made key data sets including the World Development Indicators, Africa Development Indicators, Global Finance Indicators, and Doing Business Indicators free for all.

The goal of the Apps, launched April 20, 2010, for Development Competition is to bring together ideas from both the developer and the development communities to create innovative tools, applications, and mash-ups using the data available through the World Bank’s Open Data Initiative. The Competition supports the World Bank’s mission to reduce global poverty by putting important data into the hands of those who can make a difference in developing countries.
