About the Position

We invite applications for the position of Research Associate (RA) to strengthen the Geoinformatics team of W-CReS.

The selected candidate will contribute to projects involving:

  • Multi-temporal satellite data processing

  • Climate and watershed studies

  • Cloud-based and open-source geospatial platforms

  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams across the organisation

Qualifications

  • ME/M.Tech./MSc. in Geoinformatics / Geomatics / Remote Sensing & GIS with minimum two (2) years of relevant professional/research experience

  • OR D. in a similar discipline

Requirements

  • Proficiency in satellite data processing, image correction, and analysis

  • Working knowledge of desktop and cloud-based GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, SNAP, ERDAS Imagine, Google Earth Engine)

  • Strong understanding of GIS database management and thematic analysis of satellite imagery

  • Expertise in classification algorithms, spectral indices, and geospatial time-series analysis

  • Experience handling and analysing both optical and microwave satellite datasets

  • Minimum one research publication in a high-quality research journal

  • Knowledge of Natural Resource Management (NRM) studies will be an added advantage

Key Responsibilities

Preparation of thematic maps such as:

  • Land Degradation

  • LULC (Land Use Land Cover)

  • Topographic Maps

  • Hydrological Maps

  • Other geospatial products

  1. Support the Geoinformatics team in developing state-of-the-art remote sensing products using open-source GIS technologies

  2. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geospatial insights across project components

  3. Contribute to scientific manuscripts, technical papers, and documentation for publication in peer-reviewed journals
