About the Organisation:

Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) is a globally recognised non-profit  organisation focused on environmental conservation and sustainable, socially just development. ATREE engages in the generation and dissemination of rigorous interdisciplinary knowledge that informs and is informed by the needs of grassroots communities, policymakers and the wider public. It prioritises capacity-building for producing the next generation of scholars and leaders.

Appointments and Emoluments: The initial appointment will be for two years, with a three-month probation period. Opportunity of renewal for a third year, subject to satisfactory progress. Salaries at ATREE are competitive and at par with other academic institutions in India. 

Water and society programme: The programme aims to work towards achieving a water-secure future for society through interdisciplinary knowledge generation and dissemination, policy engagement, capacity building, and partnerships for equitable and sustainable water management and democratic water governance. To advance the knowledge, we adopt an approach of integrated water resources management and acknowledge an intricate interplay between natural and human systems within complex waterscapes. Our strategy integrates diverse knowledge streams, particularly hydrology and water quality, encompassing surface water-groundwater interactions, political ecology, and science, technology, and society to analyse and address water-related issues by leveraging our expertise in geospatial tools and nature-based solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation

  • Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to timelines and budget constraints

  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to assess project status and identify potential risks or issues

  • Prepare and present progress reports, updates, and presentations to stakeholders and donors

  • Facilitate community engagement and outreach activities to raise awareness and gather feedback

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle

  • Evaluate project outcomes and the effectiveness of restoration efforts through data analysis and monitoring results

  • Capacity to work collaboratively within a diverse team

  • Build the capacity of project/programme teams

Qualifications

  • B.Tech/B.E in Civil Engineering/Environmental Engineering with M.Tech/M.E in Environmental Engineering/Water resource management 

  • 5 years of research experience with 1-2 years in project management, particularly in environmental or ecological restoration projects

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and environmental permits related to lake restoration

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, government agencies, and community stakeholders

  • Ability to develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and resources efficiently

  • Experience in RS&GIS, modelling & statistical tools is a must

  • Familiarity with Kannada is necessary for effective communication with communities and stakeholders
