Network Coordinator - Upper Bhima Collective (UBC)

Location : Pune, Maharashtra Work mode: Hybrid, Full time

Author : India Water Portal

About the Organisation:

The Upper Bhima Collective (UBC) is a network of individuals and organizations working on a myriad of issues in the Upper Bhima River basin, such as water quality, ground water and surface water flows, biodiversity, rural development and livelihoods to name just a few. The UBC was formed in principle in 2023 to harmonize and strengthen these efforts, by bringing an ecosystem lens to conserving freshwater ecosystems such as rivers, lakes, groundwater, riparian areas and associated biodiversity and ecosystem services. The UBC comprises more than 15 organisations/individuals with deep work in the basin (Jeevitnadi, CSD-GIPE, ITC, Astitva, Shashwat Trust, SOPPECOM, ACWADAM, FES, TNC-India and others). We are now looking for a coordinator to bring together and facilitate the collaboration of these organizations for the successful implementation of our Conservation Action Plan (CAP) in this basin. The UBC is supported by the Alliance for Conserving Freshwater Ecosystems, a national initiative to bring focus, collective effort and action to protect and conserve inland water ecosystems in India. You can find out more about the Alliance here: [LINK]

Role Overview :

The coordinator will work closely with the convenor of UBC and other core members of the collective. The coordinator will play a crucial role in mobilising and facilitating on ground activities of the collective while also building a shared identity that existing and new collective members can rally behind. Responsibilities: The coordinator is expected to:

1. Project facilitation: Co-ordinate with project managers to understand project needs, identify gaps in implementation, and connect relevant collective members to address these gaps and ensure smooth project execution.

2. Network weaving: Facilitate opportunities for members and organizations to build rapport, create meaningful interactions, and develop closer working relationships that contribute to the collective’s overall success.

3. Collective growth: Identify, onboard and integrate new organizations into the collective who align with the collective’s goals and its conservation action plan (CAP) for the basin. This also includes identifying funding opportunities which can support the collective’s initiatives and working with the core team to secure funding.

4. Collective outreach: Increase the collective’s visibility and network by engaging key stakeholders, such as concerned citizens, academics, and entrepreneurs, to generate support for the collective’s initiatives.

5. Communications: Providing regular updates to the members, sharing progress, achievements, and key activities, along with monthly documentation of past and upcoming initiatives

Support in the Role:

Given the multi-disciplinary nature of this role, you’ll often find yourself navigating the unknown. While we encourage a strong action bias, you will always find support and guidance in tackling challenges from the core team of the collective. Additionally, there are systems in place within the Alliance for Conserving Freshwater Ecosystems to support the coordinator with facilitation and coordination expertise.

Qualifications:

● Prior experience in working with community-based or climate/environmental organisations, in the region.

● Understanding of climate/environmental issues, particularly those related to water, ecology, and communities.

● Ability to facilitate multi-stakeholder workshops; familiarity with participatory approaches and stakeholder management.

● Ability to understand and speak Marathi is a must; this will be required for effective engagement with all stakeholders.

● Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the region, and occasionally, within the country as well.
