Project: Support to the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership
Position: Intern
Location: New Delhi
Project Background:
In May 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz established the Indo-German Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development (GSDP) to expedite the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fulfil the commitments of the Paris Climate Agreement. The new collaboration framework emphasises on cooperation through various platforms such as bilateral, trilateral, and multilateral initiatives. The focus is on jointly developing sustainable and inclusive capacity-building projects, addressing climate change, promoting sustainable development, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The GSDP provides an overarching umbrella for Indo-German development cooperation and the GIZ sector that comprises technical cooperation projects on the topics of climate change mitigation and circular economy, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and sustainable agriculture in rural areas of India. The technical cooperation projects contribute directly to the goals of the partnership and relate to national programmes as well as international agreements on climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development, among others.
In 2022, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commissioned GIZ with the implementation of the project “Support to the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership” (GSDP Support Project). The project follows the objective to strengthen transformative approaches for climate policy and SDG achievement in Indo-German cooperation across three main work streams: Support services to the political partners of the GSDP; Climate adaptation; and localising the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The project is part of the Environment, Climate Change, Natural Resource Management and Biodiversity Cluster. The Environment cluster encompasses technical cooperation projects on climate protection and the circular economy, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable agriculture in rural India. The projects relate, among other things, to national programs and international agreements on climate change, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
The project wants to hire an intern to support the project with tasks related to SDG planning and implementation in the partner states. In addition, the intern will support the Environment cluster's coordination unit with 50% administrative and technical tasks and 50% project work and operational implementation.
Description (Terms of Reference):
The Intern will actively support the team in daily administrative tasks while developing a deeper understanding of Agenda 2030 and SDGs. This role will provide hands-on experience in working with government and non-government stakeholders. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting and organizing GSDP and sector-wide events, gaining practical insights into event management. This includes learning how to ensure smooth coordination of meetings and effective communication with various partners. The intern will have opportunities to enhance his/her organisational and communication skills, preparing him/her for future professional challenges. The activities will be distributed in a 50:50 format between the GSDP Support Project and the Environment Cluster.
Key Responsibilities of the intern include, but are not limited to, the following:
