Hi,

I recently got a borewell done. The entire depth of the borewell is 145 feet. We also got submersible installed which is at a depth of 85 feet. After three months, we noticed that just below the submersible, the entire borewell is full. Can anybody suggest what caused this? We consulted the person who dug the borewell and he suggested that it needed to be cleaned using a compressor. The compressor hoewever not able to clean it and the operator after half an hour of operation said that his compressor will not be able to clean the borewell.

An innovative project makes rainwater harvesting easier and more effective in certain areas of Mewat village with increased groundwater salinity.

One of the major causes of deterioration of water quality is the increase in overall salinity. Total hardness and the presence of materials like fluoride, nitrate, iron, arsenic, and toxic metal ions determine salinity levels in groundwater. With the demand for groundwater growing rapidly, its exploitation is also accelerating which causes depletion. Depletion of groundwater changes the flow (both direction and velocity) of the groundwater which may cause the inflow of polluted water into the freshwater aquifer from surrounding areas.

A water supply scheme based on solar power solves the lack of availability of water in a village.

The Makhala village is located in the Amravati district in the southwestern Satpura mountain ranges. Situated at 959 m above mean sea level, this Maharashtra village has 352 households with a population of 1045. Although accessible by road in all seasons, the village is isolated and surrounded by forests. The nearest village is Semadoh at a distance of 12 km. Needless to say, the power supply is still miles away in this village.

The water yeild in our borewell was around 1.25 inch at 570 sft. We further bored it upto 740 sft but there was no sign of second yeild. However, our neighbors got first yeild at 990 sft. We did not want to go further deep and hence we stopped at 740sft. The borewell is for domestic purpose. Now can I go for single phase motor, at a depth of 650sf? Also, one or two feet before the fracture point at 570sft, we got some boulders. Is this due to water yeild point or will have slit issue in later stages. Please clarify. Thank you.

The villagers of Khalabari are hopeful that the overhead tank being built in the village would make drinking water easily accessible to them.

In the early hours, the villagers of Khalabari, a tribal-dominated village in the Dumuripadar gram panchayat of Koraput district in Odisha step out of their houses for bringing wood and drinking water. The road to the forest where the water is available is rocky. Both women and men walk a few kilometres on the harsh terrain to bring essential commodities needed for their survival. Khalabari, with a population of 186, has 45 households.
