Dear IWP

I am a medical doctor and founder of voluntary organisation ANJALI Society for Rural Health & Development. Along with health & women's programm we have undertaken Environment Enrichment Programm in which we develop, modify, desilt existing water bodies ( talav) and plan trees on large scale. All this is done voluntarily with some involvement of local people. One of our well wishers gave me name of this book which i wanted to read to get some understanding about this kind of work. Hi

I am planning to drill a borewell in my residence. We had a well of 70ft depth which we stopped digging after it ended in rock, and we get very little water from there.

My query is :

  1.  Can we use same well and continue on digging for borewell?
  2. If possible #1, then what will be approximate cost?
  3. If not possible #1 then what will be approx cost?

Any additional advice and suggestions are most welcom. My location is Gandhi Mandap, South Sarania, Guwahati.

Thanks in advance

Deep

Hello

I need some help to design a filter for roof top rain water harvesting. The water catching area is 100 sqm, and the rainfall maximum is 130 mm, and so the filter should have the capacity to filter 216 liters/min. I have a 4'' down pipe installed, while the storage area is a live well 52 feet deep . This water will be used for cooking too.

Hello,

Ganges discharge data is difficult to find and more so is the case with monthly discharge data. I am working on a research project on Ganges basin and need monthly discharge data for Ganges during 1950-2003. If it is not available, then the discharge data for its subcatchments would also be useful.

I can not find any database where such dataset can be found. Kindly help and please provide leads for this.

Hello

We  have a 3 chambered Batch reactor by C Tech. The type of Industry is petrochemical for production of HDPE/LLDPE/PP, which is presently in commissioning phase. We have tried to grow bacteria at initial phase by fresh cow dung. UREA and DAP are dosed 4-5 kg/day. After 4-5 days the MLSS has growth to 860 mg/L and after that it decreases to 400 mg/L.

At present MLSS is not growing. The incoming effluent is having COD: 250 mg/L. and flow rate: 180 M3/Hr. Now we are facing problems to decrease the COD of the effluent.

Hi,

I am resident of Mogappair East, Chennai, where the water pumped from borewell (depth around 70 ft) turns yellow. When water is stored in overhead tank, deposits will come as fine mud. This mud is clogging the water lines and I was forced to spend money to lay fresh lines from overhead to my house taps. My plumber is suggesting to construct a tank filled with sponge which is to be replaced frequently. But, he says it is costly affair.
