What are the rules and regulation for blasting rocks in a well with a depth of 9 meter in a rural area. There are two houses nearby at a 40 meter distance, they objected further digging. How can I proceed and whom to contact for further help? Pls advise. We are in Kottayam district, Kerala.

Meenachil Nadee Samrakshana Samithi wins the Bhagirath Prayas Samman for its efforts to save Kerala's Meenachil river from total destruction.

The scenic sublimity of the Meenachil river is immortalised by Arundhati Roy in her Booker prize-winning novel, The God of Small Things. Roy skilfully presents the river flowing through the Aymanam village as a victim of human greed and callousness. The river is described in the book as a beautiful one that turns an ugly waste dump into which anything could be flung. Meenachil is referred to as a swollen sluggish drain carrying all the waste of Kottayam (a town by the river in Kerala) in its arms as it makes its tired way to the sea.

I have an open well about 90 feet deep. My neighbour is now trying to dig a borewell of about 200 feet depth, just 30 feet away from my open well. We live in a hilly area which has acute water shortage from February to May of every year.

I would like to know what are the possible negative impacts of digging the borewell on my open well. I have already stopped the borewell digging by getting a stop memo from the government. But my neighbour is trying to cancel the stop memo and continue drilling. Can I permanently stop this borewell digging? Please suggest.
