Hi,

I want to set-up a packaged water bottling plant in Kanyakumari.  The plant is expected to have a capacity of 5000 lph with complete automatic washing and filling machine. I would like to know the cost related to Government and other regulatory approval in case I think of having my own branding. Also, what will be the total cost of plant and machinery?

Regards,

Many plants are in equal danger of becoming as extinct as some animals. Does anyone care?

A fluttering butterfly or a dashing cheetah immediately bring vivid images to mind. Does the image of a plant stir us as much? Are we as fascinated watching a flower bloom? Probably not. Maybe that’s why there is such a large focus on endangered animals and birds and not so much on plant species that are dying out. The Western Ghats is a great example of this. The floral diversity in this area is still untapped as revealed by two recent research reports by famous botanists.

This paper published in the Indian Journal of Dental Research describes the findings of a study that aimed at assessing the oral health status of 11-15 year old school children from Kanyakumari district. The survey focused on determining the prevalence and severity of dental fluorosis along with assessing the various risk factors involved. Nearly 12 million of the 85 million tons of fluoride deposits are found in India. It is therefore not surprising that dental fluorosis is endemic in 15 states of India. The highest rates of endemicity have been reported from Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Punjab and Tamil Nadu.

A total of 1800 children  from all the nine blocks of Kanyakumari district from 6th to 10th standard were examined using type III examination. Dental fluorosis was present 15.8% of the study population and varied from as low as 1.4% to as high as 29.4% in different areas. There was a significant difference in dental fluorosis levels between rural and urban residents. The prevalence of fluorosis was higher among children who consumed piped water as compared to children who consumed groundwater.

70-year old enthusiastic participant in the "Save Arkavathy" walk

On 29th January, my colleague Binayak and I went to Nelmangala to participate in the "Save Arkavathy"Walk. The Walk was organized hoping that the participants would learn from the experiences of the villagers along the Arkavathy River and be able to generate interest in them to join the walk.
