(Query received over email from Ganesh Ms)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have seen your video in youtube on barrel biosand filter and require guidance on how to filter muddy open well water to drinkable quality. Can your organisation help me in this regard?

The well is 20 ft deep and we need to filter contaminants and muddy water (Koramangala was once a lake; as you know, the muddy water is due to clay mud)

The Arkavathi river catchment is under trouble due to the proposed Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) project (combines both industrial as well as housing). Please stop this project or else tomorrow we Bangaloreans will definitely face huge water shortage problems.

Let me know if any measures been taken to cancel the proposed ITIR project.

I dug a borewell today at my site in Visweswaraya Layout, Bangalore. We hit rock at 60 feet, and we put the casing till 60 feet. We dug further and at 100 feet we struck water, about 4 inches. Thereafter we wanted to go further down, but when we reached 125 feet we started getting pieces of rocks (size 2x2 inches) The borewell digging agent stopped digging further stating that it would not be possible to go further.

Now my question is, since we struck water at 100 ft will the water last and or there be any problem in future with the borewell going dry.

Hi,

I recently dug a borewell in Hoody Cirlce, Bangalore.

  • PVC Casing - 80 Feet
  • MS Casing - 120 feet
  • Borewell depth 800 feet

There is no sign of water overflow during borewell, only dry sand and, some times, water drops out like a small drizzles (rainlike). Now I need advice on proper rain water harvesting.

I am planning to filter and remove the dirt and storing this water in a 1000 litre tank and over flow to be directed to sand filters dug around the borwell and that overflow in to a 6000 litre sump.

I would like to bring to your notice about the wastage of precious water in Bangalore and mostly elsewhere. It gives me a pain in my heart when I see people wasting a pipe thick water to clean the roads in front of their house and in the house or vehicles. It makes sense if the whole world had abundant water supply but we are aware that there are thousands of unfortunate people in North Karnataka who do not have water in this hot summer for irrigation or even for drinking.
