QUESTION
Will there be a good water source at sandy layer after 10 meters of clay strata?

Hello,

I have a site which is about 1.5km from sea shore and about 500 meters from back water/river. The soil strata is as follows.

0 to 5 meters -  Sandy silt,

5m to 13m – Silty clay,

13m to 17m – Sandy silt

17m -  Granite rock

The strata details are from soil test performed at three different points and I have a detailed soil test report performed by a renowned engineering college. There is a shallow well at the site which is about 18 feet deep. The quantity of water is not sufficient for our intended use.

My question is if I drill a borewell (hand bore or machine bore) up to a depth of 17m (that is where the rocky strata starts), do I have good chances of getting ample potable water from the sandy strata at 13m to 17m where I have got big sand particles? And is there a risk of sea water intrusion?

Please share your expert views.
