We live in a small colony in Raipur with about 25 families. The drainage of our colony was discharged in to a big open plot. Now construction has been started and our sewer is blocked. As there are no connected municipal nala or sewage system, we are facing a serious problem. Particularly, in my house, the outlet of our sewer is at a very low level adjoining the colony sewer. The discharged waste consists of all types including kitchen waste, bathing and washing waste water.

Due to stoppage of discharge of entire colony, my sewer always remains full and blocked and the waste water of my house is not at all discharged. We colony people are thinking for constructing a soak pit just outside the colony and need some guidance.

Total inhabitants are in the range of 120-125 people, waste water discharge is between 20000 - 25000 litres per day. What should be optimum size of the soak pit so it can work for at least 2 years? What is the construction process and approx cost? Will it be giving bad odour all the time? The space available is little, the soak pit can have a maximum dia of about 6 ft.One of the common bore wells of the colony is situated at a distance of about 20 ft and the second one at 300 ft from the proposed site, is it safe?

If it is not feasible for colony, I will construct a smaller one at least for my house. The upper layer soil is "murum" for 2-3 feet then black cotton soil.
