Hi,

I am from Chennai. I live in a gated community with individual houses. Unfortunately in our house, the location chosen for the septic tank is wrong (we guess that ground below septic tank is rocky) and hence natural soak-away is not happening. Our septic tank gets filled up very soon. We are emptying the septic tank through sewer lorry every 3-4 months whereas our neighbours have not used sewer service for past 2years.  

Should we make our own soak away pit ? What are the checks to be kept in mind? Since our septic tank is close to the road, we need to be careful to make sure that the soak-away water does not reach groundwater. Are there any legal issues in doing so?

Please advise.
