QUESTION
Need a method of filtering sand out of borewell water

While filling the bore well water overhead tank, fine dust (mud) comes along with the water intermitently ie the clear water and after few minutes water mixed with fine sand, finer than talcum powder may be less than 1 micron size.I checked the total suspended solids of the bore well water in way of two samples.one at the start of pump and another after 10 mts and the results are 128mg/l and 18mg/l  respectively.during filling of overhead tank the water becomes slurry and after some time the water becomes slightly brownish colour once the sediment settles down.the  taste of the water is good and no odour at all.the depth of the borewell is 135 feet and the suction pipe is kept at the height of 115 feet.the overhead tank capacity is abt 2000 ltrs and is filled full  with in 40 minutes by a 1.5 HP jet pump.
my question is why this problem occurs and how to solve the same. is there any effective filteration method is possible to get clear water.is sand filter can be used.
