QUESTION
Need advice on improving borewell yield in Mysore, Karnataka

We are located in a village Kenchalagudu on Manandavadi Road, 15 kms. from Mysore city bus stand.  We purchased the site for our project in May 2003.  With the help of a geologist, we found a water point.  He advised us to dig around 400 feet in order to get water.  But when we tried, soil became wet at a depth of 80 feet.  Water started gushing out at a depth of 110'.  People asses the yield as 3 inches.  We dug to a depth of 200 feet.  Borewell people found it impossible to go further down because of the water force.  Water yield was good.  We had left pipe upto a level of 140 feet.

Borewell characteristics are as follows:

1) Exact location of borewell : Kenchalagudu village, Near Salhundi, 2.5 kms. from Chitravana Resorts, Manandavadi Road, Mysore - 570008.  15 Km. from City bus stand.

2) Diameter of the borewell is 6".

3) Depth of the borewell : 200 feet

4) Casing pipe length : 10 feet, Type of casing : Metal.

5) Time of construction - May 2003, during summer.

During January 2008, we faced a problem with the pump.  Lifting the pump for repair caused it to be stuck and was pushed to the bottom with the use of rigger. Water level remained at 110ft and a new 5 HP pump was installed. Yield continued to be steady. But after six months the yield has gone down with non steady water flow.

Since two years several new borewells have been dug in the vicinity.  Transformer is located closeby and voltage is good. ( 3 phase 400V )
We are running a free alternative residential school for opportunity deprived children.  Our only source of water is borewell.  (www.divyadeepatrust.org)

Kindly advice on how to improve the yield of the borewell.
