About the Organisation:

Founded in 2009 as a volunteer-led movement and formally registered as a society in 2012, Waste Warriors Society (WWS) is a non-profit driving systemic change to tackle the mounting waste crisis in the Indian Himalayan Region. Positioned at the nexus of climate action, biodiversity conservation, and inclusive livelihoods, we harness behaviour change to shift how communities, governments, and markets perceive and manage waste. With a 200+ strong team working across Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, WWS pioneers context-specific solutions in both urban and rural settings, with a special focus on eco-sensitive and tourism-heavy landscapes where waste poses an acute environmental risk.

Our approach integrates long-term behavior change, infrastructure strengthening, and community mobilisation to build resilient waste management systems that endure beyond projects. Equally, WWS nurtures local entrepreneurship; particularly among women and youth—unlocking pathways for dignified green livelihoods while embedding waste management in local waste management systems through dedicated models. In doing so, we aspire not only to keep the Himalayas clean but also to safeguard ecosystems, enhance climate resilience, and foster socio-economic equity. You can read more about our work here.

Position Brief:

We are seeking a highly driven and dynamic individual passionate about working in the waste management sector, particularly with the youth population aged between 15-30 years old. We are working to build a youth movement in Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh named YUWA, which stands for Youth United for Waste & Climate Actions. The movement is currently centered around the cities of Dehradun and Dharamshala with future plans of further expansion.

We are looking for someone to join our youthful YUWA team in Dehradun. We value honesty, grit and empathy and we are looking for someone to bring in a fresh wave of ideas, energy and enthusiasm to build YUWA further!

About YUWA

In a bid to empower communities, we launched our youth movement YUWA (Youth United for Waste & Climate Action) in 2023 in Dehradun. The vision of YUWA is simple: We want to nudge youth to start their climate journeys, take climate actions in their capacities towards a cleaner environment, and while doing all this, create a community of such passionate changemakers who can be the flagbearers of the movement going forward. Based on good traction in Dehradun, last year, in 2024, we launched YUWA Dharamshala as well. Since inception, in Dehradun alone, we have engaged with more than 6,000 youth in Dehradun, worked with more than 60+ schools and 20+ colleges, which has resulted in more than 25,000 climate actions and a solid community of 30 changemakers.
