YIF

The Young India Fellowship (YIF) is the precursor to Ashoka University, a world-class university focused on the liberal arts and sciences, set to open in the Delhi NCR in 2013. Ashoka's founders, the International Foundation for Research and Education (IFRE), envision the university as India's finest centre of higher education, comparable to the leading research-based, multi-disciplinary universities in the world.

Description:
The YIF has invited applications for the second batch of its one-year, fully funded residential scholarship based in New Delhi. The YIF, in conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania (Penn), is the first academic programme in the country to fill the void in higher education for a course based on the liberal arts. YIF has been specially conceived and designed to create the country's finest, most socially conscious leaders. The Fellows will undertake a holistic, multi-disciplinary academic course and project-based internship aimed at grooming India’s next generation of socially conscious leaders.

Online rolling application process gives first-round applicants chance of early local interview and selection for the fully funded one-year programme based in New Delhi. Applications open for the second batch of YIF, modelled after the Rhodes Scholarship. Top-level university graduates are encouraged to start applying online as early as possible for this path-breaking, post-graduate programme based in Delhi.

Fellows are mentored by industry leaders such as NR Narayana Murthy (Founder, Infosys) and Deepak Parekh (Chairman, HDFC). Dean, Dr Pramath Raj Sinha,  said YIF was searching for India’s brightest young people, those who wanted to make a difference and discover their true potential.

The first round of interviews from January 1, 2012 will be carried out in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. Subsequent  sessions will be conducted only in New Delhi. The rigorous admission process for YIF starts with applicants filling up a detailed application dossier designed to give an insight into their multi-faceted personalities. This is followed by a telephone interview and an exercise to test applicants’ ability to work as part of a team before the final personal interaction to select a Young India Fellow.

Applications are open until February 28, 2012. The academic session starts in June 2012.
