World Wildlife Fund-India (WWF-India) has been working towards conservation and wise management of river systems and wetlands in India for over a decade now. The areas of intervention have been freshwater ecosystems, connected habitats, freshwater species and balanced use of water resources for livelihoods. 



About Living Ganga Programme:
In 2007 WWF India initiated the ‘Living Ganga Programme’ (LGP), with the goal of promoting sustainable water and energy management in the Ganga basin in the face of climate change. The programme sets out to demonstrate that scientific research, practical action on the ground and policy work can help restore the river by addressing numerous threats. The programme works with different stakeholders in the 800 km critical stretch of the river from Gangotri in Uttarakhand to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. 



Kanpur Field Office: 

The Kanpur Field Office coordinates the implementation of the programme in consultation with the Living Ganga team at the WWF-India Secretariat.

Job description:



  • Programme management
    • Overall coordination of WWF-India’s Kanpur Field Office (including administration and finance)
    • Coordinating the implementation of the components on Water Quality and Pollution Abatement, Water-Energy Co-Management and Green Chemistry training series under the Living Ganga Programme (LGP) in Kanpur
    • Coordinate with the project partners like local NGO’s, Volunteers, Government Departments (Kanpur Nagar Nigam, Uttar Pradesh (UP) Jal Sansthan, etc), Academic Institutions, Scientist/Researchers, Industry Associations and local communities

    • Responsible for socio-economic and technical surveys and impact assessments related to the LGP components implemented in Kanpur which involves collection, compilation and analysis of field data on cross cutting issues related to environment

    • Preparation of field, technical and financial reports on a regular basis for secretariat, donors and partners

    • Relationship management and networking with donors, partners, administration and other stakeholders
  • Policy advocacy 
    • Undertake evidence based advocacy, on issues related to the Ganga in general and sustainable sewage and energy management in Kanpur city and Uttar Pradesh in particular
    • Organise advocacy meetings 
    • Represent WWF-India at the State/local level conferences, workshops etc., 



  • Communication & outreach 
    • Coordinate the Ganga & I: Together Forever campaign in Kanpur and other cities of Uttar Pradesh
    • Coordinate the media campaigns in Kanpur which include organizing press events, field visits etc

    • Coordinate with schools, colleges and Government Departments in Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh for implementation of outreach, education and awareness programmes

    • Organize local level training/workshops for the identified target groups/stake holders



Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:


  • Masters degree in Environmental Science or related field with minimum of five years experience

  • Knowledge of working in the NGO sector and issues related to environment and water are essential
  • Experience in programme management will be an added advantage

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written in Hindi and English)

  • Documentation and report writing abilities

  • Proficient in MS-Office



Remuneration will be competitive with Indian NGO pay scales and will depend upon candidate’s experience levels and the overall WWF-India salary structure. WWF-India does not provide housing, telephone or vehicle facilities.
