Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Institute, Kodaikanal is a non-profit training and development organization dedicated to providing practical solution to a wide range of water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental issues across South Asia. It is one of the few institutes in India offering both formal and non formal courses in water and sanitation throughout the year. It has launched two formal courses which are job oriented. The formal courses are affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

The courses are Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Sanitation Science (ESS) or Sanitary Inspector Course, and the other course is a one-year Certificate Course for Health Workers. The eligibility criteria for the students are a pass in BSc Chemistry, or Food Technology, and a pass in plus 2 (12th standard), respectively.

For all details of the course, please refer the attached brochure or visit the website www.washinstitute.org

The courses for this year have just started and the Institute can admit students up to September 2011

The fees for the courses are Rs.30,000 per annum for the ESS course and Rs.15,000 for the Health Worker course. The Institute will arrange for 50 per cent of the course fees through sponsorship for the most deserving candidates.

In northern states of India there is a higher need for such courses and there are many job vacancies in the Government Departments. WASH institute is interested to reach out and serve this population. The Institute will facilitate the placement of the students once they complete the course.

The Institute requests you to partner by helping in any of the following ways -

  • You can depute any one of your staff for the course with the agreement to serve the organization for a longer period. Such candidates can be sent to your organization for field study of around three months out of the one year course period.
  • Some of your partner organizations may be interested to send some of their staff to get trained and hence you are requested to share the information with them.
  • You can also choose to sponsor partially or fully any of the students or staff who have expressed interest to join the course, but are unable to pay the fees.

WASH Institute looks forward to hear from you on how you would like to support or get involved with them.
