Technical Assistance for Sanitation programme management under UN ORGANISATION support to Swachh Bharat Mission - Inductus Limited

1.Background:

Under SBM G phase 1, by 2019, the programme worked to provide toilet access to nearly 110 million rural households and changing the behaviour of more than 550 million persons regarding toilet use. As this goal was directly relevant to UN ORGANISATIONs own goals of supporting the reduction of disease and infection, reduce diarrhea, enteric enteropathy and resulting child stunting and wasting, the UN ORGANISATION invested resources, and supported the SBM G programme and helped increase sanitation coverage and achieve ODF status.

Post 2019, evaluations like NAARS, NSSO had indicated that significant progress had been made, however the NSSO and NFHS surveys 2020-21 also indicated that there are still significant gaps in coverage and toilet usage and sanitation service delivery. It was realised that a robust post ODF follow up phase was needed to ensure prevention of slippage; ensure sustainability of sanitation outcomes, support repairing defunct toilets and covering new households and promote waste management to ensure SDG compliance.
