Svaraj – the society for Voluntary Action Revitalisation and Justice – is a small but well known national development voluntary organisation. head quartered in Bangalore.  Our vision – a just society in a just environment. Our programmes include strengthening food, water and livelihood security through fair and just management and protection of our ecosystem, responding to needs of disaster affected families and providing vital physiotherapy care for people with disabilities; research and policy analysis, communications and promoting individual philanthropy. We are looking to recruit a Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Officer for the Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWRM) Program in Doddaballapur, Bangalore rural district.

Qualification: BE/B.Tech (Environment Engineering) / M.Sc / B.Sc (Environmental Sciences) and or equivalent Experience : 3-5 years in design, implementation of Water,  Sanitation  & Pollution prevention programs in rural, peri urban areas, and awareness/capacity building of communities  (MSWs with excellent experience in WASH will also be considered)

Job profile:

• Develop a sound and comprehensive perspective on the local sanitation and waste management situation based on the Svaraj Watsan Study 2009
• Build and raise awareness, for self motivation of the local communities (urban/rural) for effective community participation in the solid waste management programmes;  Promoting community initiatives in household waste disposal and management
• Build strong alliances with local bodies - Industries, Municipal bodies, Pollution Control agencies community groups calling for proactive polices and best practices on waste disposal, recycling of waste and treatment of effluents based on good scientific and environ-friendly evidence.
• Ensure effective process and outcome documentation for in-house and knowledge sharing with other stakeholders.

The goal is a safe and clean environment for citizens of Doddabalapur as part of the IUWRM integrated programme.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication & negotiation skills, with written and oral skills in Kannada and English
• Should enjoy the challenge of working to a demanding schedule
• Good PR and liaison skills to engage, lobby with govt. agencies and local urban bodies –Municipalities, CMCs for active support and collaboration

Salary: Rs. 13,000 – Rs.15,000/- (depending on experience)
