Job Description:
The Research Officer – Water Resources Management will provide scientific and technical support to ongoing multiple CGIAR Research Initiatives, the ICAR-IWMI work plan, and bilateral projects. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of hydrological modelling tools, climate-smart agricultural water management, and geospatial data analysis. Working with project management as well as with other CGIAR colleagues and national and international partners, the Research Officer will be part of a multinational and multidisciplinary team contributing toward building resilience and mitigating environmental impacts in India’s agri-food systems.
Job Responsibilities:
Implement and carry out research support activities for ongoing projects on water resources, agricultural water management, irrigation, building resilience to floods and droughts, and climate-smart agricultural water management.
Assist in collecting, managing, and analyzing both spatial and non-spatial agricultural, hydrological, and climate data from projects.
Contribute to articles for peer-reviewed publication in a timely manner, in accordance with IWMI’s policies and procedures for publishing research outputs.
Assist in preparing for events, workshops, and conferences through background analysis, concept notes, and presentations.
Engage with key stakeholders in project implementation, policy advocacy, and dissemination of project outcomes to contribute to development goals.
Assist in Integrating research findings into effective policy recommendations and disseminate information through relevant guidelines and policy briefs.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience:
Master’s degree in hydrology, hydrogeology, or water resources engineering. Exceptional candidates who are close to completing their master’s will also be considered.
At least 02 years of work experience in the field of water resource management.
Desirable,
Proven expertise in spatial and non-spatial data analysis using R, Python, etc.
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Essential
Knowledge and Training in groundwater modelling tools.
Strong knowledge of agricultural water management concepts demonstrated through fieldwork, coursework, or project experience.
Strong writing skills, demonstrated through term papers and reports written during the master’s program.
Willingness and ability to travel across India, including to rural areas, to conduct fieldwork and supervise primary data collection.
Excellent oral and written language skills in English, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Desirable,
Understanding of development challenges, especially in relation to water, poverty alleviation, and food security in India and South Asia.
Knowledge of regional languages.
