The Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) and GTZ in collaboration with BWSSB, KUWSDB, BBMP, BDA, IWWA, IPHE, IE is organising a National Conference on Urban Water Management: Challenges and Option. The objective of the conference is to facilitate the various stakeholders in urban water management to share their experiences in solving the urban water crisis in India and elsewhere. The conference is being organized in Bangalore, one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities, faced with serious water management problem like other cities and towns in India. It is hoped that this conference would explore the various options in managing those challenges keeping 'sustainable development' and 'clean technology options' as 'development mantra'. The conference would also deliberate on the strategies to deal effectively with the water crisis. The conference is aimed at specialists interested in Urban Water Management (UWM), who would share their experiences, and contribute towards policy and decision making. The broad objectives of this conference are as follows: • Provide a platform for exchange of ideas and experiences among field engineers, researchers, Scientists, planners, entrepreneurs, industrialists and policy makers to promote sustainable management of urban water resources. • Identify relevant technologies for adaptation into management of water supply systems in the urban. • Strengthen and sustain the collaborations and development of network for UWM. Topics for the contribution of papers and poster presentations 1.Water Supply Demand management, water distribution losses, water economics and auditing, water quality, risks and vulnerability, clean technology options and energy efficient methods. 2.Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Storm water recovery and disposal, innovative and cost-effective technologies in water treatment, recycling and reuse of waste water. 3.Conservation and Groundwater Management Climate change effect on water resources, urban flooding and landscape management, lake management, groundwater mining and quality, groundwater conservation and recharge, wetlands and watershed management, rainwater harvesting, catchment to consumer modeling and legislations for groundwater use. 4.Water Utilities, Public Health and Governance Water borne diseases, bio-remediation, information technology and automation, water safety plans, water saving technologies, e-governance and public private partnership (PPP) in effective water management. Call for papers and Poster Presentation Participants are invited to submit the extended abstracts of two pages with not more than 1500 words on A4 (210 X 297 mm) size paper (single spacing using Microsoft Times New Roman, 12 font size). The abstracts can be submitted to the Conference Secretariat not later than 25th October 2009. The extended abstract should also be sent as an email attachment to urbanwater09@gmail.com, secretariat@urbanwater.in. Participants will be informed by 05th November 2009 or earlier the status of acceptance of their papers. All papers (extended abstracts) accepted for oral presentations will be printed in the Conference Proceedings.
