Water for People India initiated its operations in West Bengal in 1996 in Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts. Consistent with the global vision and mission, we exist to promote the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services, accessible to all, and sustained by strong communities, businesses, and governments. Position Summary:
The Junior Project Engineer will assist in achieving the objectives of the "School Improvement Program - WASH in Schools along with Ground Water Recharge in West Bengal" project. Their support will help improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene practices in schools, while also promoting sustainable groundwater management in the West Bengal region.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following are the deliverables of the Consultant-Project Engineer:
DPR Preparation:
Conduct technical feasibility of the site and Preparation of detail project report (Technical design, Drawings & Estimates) with measurements for School WASH program and Ground Water Recharge in targeted schools.
Prepare plans and estimates of renovation works for existing schools.
Support in Implementation:
Provide technical support to project team for supervision, contractors, and masons to understand the plan, design, specification, and estimates.
Ensuring regular quality check in respect to material used, cement motor mix ratio, concrete mix ratio, wall alignments, perfection with measurements, horizontal and vertical levels, slopes, parallel and perpendicular cracks etc. and provide supports to execute the quality work.
Support in drafting of tender documents and tendering of work.
Training and Capacity Building:
Train and assist the masons and contractors to flow and comply with provided/recommended specification for contractions.
Extend handholding support to the contractors/vendors for effective execution of the retrofitting/construction work.
Monitoring:
Responsible in all civil works and sanitary surveillance for timely compilation of the activities.
Undertake regular field visits to construction sites to supervise, support staffs to lead smooth execution of the construction/retrofitting work and accomplice the target as per the plan of action.
Minimum five times site monitoring visit for each site: At the time of preparation of plan and estimate; At time of material quality sample checks; During construction two times (inclusive part billing) and finally at the time of preparation of final bill with actual measurements.
Share monthly progress reports of all civil works to the line manager.
Feasibility Study:
Review the existing requirements of water and sanitation for gender and child friendly toilets with rainwater harvesting structures for conserve/reuse and accordingly incorporate in the plan and estimate with actual measurements.
Candidates with Behavioral Competencies like - Analytical ability, planning and prioritizing, problem solving, communication, building relationships, flexibility, creative thinking will be considered.
Candidates with Technical Competencies like - Sound knowledge of government schemes and guidelines relating to Water, Sanitation and Water Resource Management.
Knowledge and experience in developing WASH/ public health training content and in organizing and facilitating training and learning events is expected, Knowledge and experience in capacity building and skill development preferably in WASH domain.
Prerequisites for the position
Qualification & Experience:
B.Tech (Civil Engineering) degree from a recognized University.
2-3 years of relevant experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The candidate should be well versed in Auto CAD (Civil 2D & 3D) drawing.
Estimate and Bill preparation as per PWD schedule.
Should be flexible and accommodative.
Excellent computer skills (Windows environment).
Speaks, reads and writes English fluently; and speaking, reading and writing in Bengali & Hindi is desirable.
Ability to perform multiple tasks and deliver consistently on deadlines.
