About the Organisation : Dakshin Foundation is a not-for-profit, charitable, non-governmental organisation committed to environmental sustainability and social justice.
Our mission is to inform and catalyse conservation and natural resource management, while promoting and supporting sustainable livelihoods, social development and environmental justice. We adopt interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary approaches in our research and interventions, drawing from the fields of ecology, conservation biology, sociology, economics, and law. By strengthening networks at local and national levels and supporting advocacy campaigns, we work to build grassroots’ capacities to secure ecosystems and rights and engage in conservation and environmental decision-making. Our goal is to promote ecologically and socially appropriate approaches to conservation and natural resource management in coastal, marine and mountain ecosystems in India.
About SeaChange : Dakshin’s SeaChange initiative is an integrated pathway that secures healthy ecosystems and thriving communities. It enables inclusive, community-driven, governance models for the sustainable use of coastal and marine ecosystems and improvement of community wellbeing through strengthening collective action within and across coastal regions. The SeaChange team of Andaman & Nicobar islands operates out of ANET field station in South Andaman.
Position details:
The position involves developing and implementing livelihood enhancement interventions in Andaman Islands under Dakshin’s SeaChange initiative. The objective is to enable entrepreneurship that is aligned with positive outcomes for both ecological conservation and local livelihoods through the creation of a supportive ecosystem that builds the capacities of youth and women.
Job Description: The primary responsibilities of this position include:
1. Working with a team to design and implement interventions on enhancing livelihood security in the islands, especially for women and youth
2. Liaising with stakeholders (including youth, women, community leaders, local organisations, government officials) and building partnerships as required for the interventions
3. Mentoring and supervising junior team members
Candidates must possess the following qualifications and skills:
4. Master’s degree in rural development/social work/development or sustainability studies/natural resource management or similar fields.
5. Minimum five years of relevant experience working with rural communities on livelihood improvement.
6. Fluency in English (spoken and written) and Hindi (spoken).
7. Proven ability to work in collaboration with diverse stakeholders and teams.
8. Proven ability to stay in a rural field site for an extended duration.
