The India Water Portal is an open, collaborative, web-based initiative, anchored by Arghyam, for sharing water management knowledge amongst practitioners, experts and the general public. Through its content and services, the portal aims to inspire, catalyse and support water/environment development initiatives on the ground, across the country.

The portal effort has been growing significantly since its start in 2005, and we are looking for new people to help us manage our work.

Title of position

Content editor for the India Water Portal.

Nature of position

The position is of a part-time nature, and on a consulting basis. You must be able to put in 80 hours of work or more, in a month. After a 3-month induction period, the appointment will be confirmed for one year, and can be extended.

Location

You can work from anywhere in India, provided you have good computer and high-speed internet access. Day to day coordination of the work, will be through phone and email. You must be able to make at least two 5-day visits in a year to Arghyam (travel, lodging costs will be reimbursed), for half-yearly review and planning meetings.

Start Date

March 2010.

Academic Qualifications

Preferably graduate/post-graduate in Development / Environment / Water / Social Sciences and related disciplines.

Experience

Preferably 2-3 years on the ground experience, in working with any water / environment-related development initiative in India.

Work Description

The work will involve:

  1. Processing content that is to be uploaded onto the India Water Portal. This will involve extensive reading, summarising and writing stand firsts, editing, cataloguing and organising of suitable content for the website.

  2. Doing secondary (largely internet-based) research for developing new content. This will involve identifying and sourcing relevant content from the web based on key water-related themes, events, organisations etc.

  3. Communicating with water sector practitioners, experts, agencies, individuals for sourcing / developing content related to water.

Desired Skills

You must:

  1. Have excellent English writing/communication skills. Ability to read Hindi is desirable.

  2. Be comfortable with using basic Office software and the Internet.

  3. Have good computer and high speed internet access.

Compensation

  1. Pay will be based on actual hours of work put in. The rate of pay will be approx Rs. 120-170/hour, depending on your capacity, skills and related experience. TDS will be deducted.

  2. Any work-related expenses (apart from computer and internet costs) will be reimbursed.
