Role Overview:

The Digital Content Editor will drive the IWP website’s editorial strategy, ensuring the production of high-quality, engaging, and impactful content. This individual will maintain the platform’s hygiene, establish editorial guidelines, and align content with organizational themes and goals. 

About India Water Portal
India Water Portal is a leading platform for knowledge sharing around water and related issues in India. It offers a rich collection of resources—reports, data, articles, news, and expert insights—on topics like water management, sanitation, agriculture, climate change, and more. Launched in 2005, following a recommendation by the National Knowledge Commission, the portal has become a key space for collaboration and learning. Managed by Arghyam, it aims to support sustainable water solutions and fosters conversations among experts and communities across the country.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Editorial Planning and Management

  • Develop and establish editorial guidelines in consultation with the team to ensure content consistency and quality.

  • Regularly update and refine editorial guidelines based on evolving needs, trends, and feedback.

  • Maintain a monthly editorial calendar, organizing content around predefined themes and timelines.

2. Content Creation and Editing

  • Conduct rigorous editing before publication to maintain high content standards.

  • Create feature-based content, including interviews, trend analyses, visual stories, and data-driven pieces.

  • Oversee publishing of website content, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and readability.

3. Platform Consistency, Hygiene, and Quality Control

  • Ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms, including social media and other communication channels.

  • Draft monthly newsletters to promote website content and engage the audience.

  • Regularly update and refine existing content to ensure ongoing relevance and accuracy.

4. Contributor Engagement and Training

  • Provide editorial support and training to on-ground reporting fellows.

  • Collaborate closely with contributors to source impactful and diverse content.

Required Skills and Experience:

- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in content editing and management, preferably with features and long-form content.  

- Proven ability to develop and enforce editorial guidelines.  

- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English; proficiency in Hindi is a plus.  

- Familiarity with CMS platforms, basic HTML, SEO, and social media management tools.  

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.  

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in the water, environment, or development sector is an advantage.  

- Journalistic experience will be a plus.

- Prior involvement in training or mentoring content contributors.  

- Knowledge of multimedia content creation and tools.
