Job Description/Responsibilities:

The incumbent will provide strategic, technical, and managerial leadership to ICRW Asia’s expanding portfolio of research and programs at the intersection of gender equality, climate change, and social justice. This role is ideal for a senior researcher with demonstrated experience in conceptualizing, designing, and leading high-impact research, policy analysis, and advocacy on issues such as women’s climate resilience, gendered vulnerability and adaptation, just transitions, and environmental governance.

The incumbent will lead flagship projects, contribute to thought leadership, engage in policy dialogues, and strengthen intersection of climate and gender with other thematic areas including  women’s economic empowerment (WEE), sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), adolescent empowerment, and gender-based violence (GBV). Thematic innovation, fundraising, and mentoring junior team members will also be key components of this role.

Job Responsibilities

Fundraising and Strategic Positioning

  • Lead proposal development and contribute to resource mobilization strategies.

  • Identify and cultivate donor relationships aligned with gender and climate priorities.

  • Position ICRW as a thought leader in the global gender-climate discourse through strategic engagement and visibility.

Evidence Generation and Knowledge Management

  • Lead the conceptualization, design, and execution of research studies focused on climate resilience, women’s empowerment, and environmental justice.

  • Guide mixed-methods research and analysis, with a strong focus on qualitative data and intersectional approaches.

  • Produce high-quality knowledge products such as research briefs, policy papers, peer-reviewed publications, and toolkits.

  • Contribute to the development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for climate-gender programs.

  • Support internal learning and evidence use across projects.

Program Leadership and Management

  • Oversee work plans, deliverables, and reporting for projects under the gender and climate portfolio.

  • Provide day-to-day support and technical supervision to project teams, consultants, and partners.

  • Monitor budgets and ensure timely execution of activities.

  • Build partnerships with stakeholders across climate, development, and gender sectors.

Capacity Building and Representation

  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to team-wide capacity development on climate-gender integration.

  • Represent ICRW in external platforms, including academic conferences, technical working groups, donor consultations, and media engagements.

  • Drive visibility of ICRW’s work by contributing to publications, case studies, and digital content.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • PhD in a relevant field such as Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, Climate Science or related field with a minimum of ten (10) years post doctoral experience; Masters degree with a minimum of twelve (12) years post-masters experience.

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated leadership in conceptualizing, initiating, and managing research and policy programs on climate resilience and gender-responsive development.

  • Proven track record of overseeing multi-stakeholder, interdisciplinary projects with measurable impact.

  • Experience working on gendered impacts of climate risk, adaptation, just transitions, or environmental justice.

  • Strong publication record and ability to convert research into actionable policy or programmatic insights.

  • Prior experience cultivating donor relationships, designing high-quality proposal, and managing diverse funding portfolios.

  • Familiarity with climate change governance, sustainable livelihoods, or environmental social science methodologies is an added advantage.

 Core Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to embed intersectional and participatory perspectives in climate and gender research, drawing from feminist and locally grounded methodologies.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience tailoring insights for diverse audiences—technical, policy, and community-level.

  • Strategic thinking and collaborative leadership with a proven ability to guide teams and manage project cycles.

  • Competence in budgeting, results tracking, and technical oversight of complex projects.

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and feminist values in both content and organizational practice.
