Railways stations catering to and around important pilgrimate locations will soon be ‘discharge free’. Coaches in all trains plying along these routes will soon be fitted with modern toilets which will hold the excreta without letting it fall on the tracks. Around 4,000 coaches are expected to be refurbished according to the plan.

Organic waste to be turned into re-usable compost in Coimbatore's Vellalore dumpyard
Coimbatore Corporation has initiated the dumping of organic waste in a separate facility in Vellalore. The dumpyard is expected to handle close to 450 - 500 tonnes of waste in a day collected from households in all wards, restaurants and market places. Soon, its two biomethanation plants are expected to make use of the organic waste to power street lights in the area.
