The diverse milieu of its team of experts converges on energy efficient building design and policies, building code development, green building certification, climate change mitigation policies, capacity building and training.

About IIHS

The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is a national education institution committed to the equitable, sustainable and efficient transformation of Indian settlements. IIHS is India’s first prospective independently funded and managed inter-disciplinary National University for Innovation that focuses on its ongoing urban and development transformation. It is a first-of-its-kind, practice and innovation-oriented knowledge institution that seeks to bridge the conventional excellence, scale and inclusion divide.

Background

Daylighting is an essential aspect of good building design and is a key feature in green buildings. Key goals in daylighting design are to provide sufficient illuminance, minimise the perception of glare, and provide for overall visual comfort.

About the programme

This programme is designed for professionals interested in green building design, daylighting and LEED/GRIHA certification. The objective of this two day training programme is to equip participants with the practical know-how to undertake shading and daylighting simulations and analysis on their own. The programme will further strengthen the basic concepts of passive solar design.

The programme has been designed in such a way that the basic concepts will be first understood by working on manual exercises such as generating shadow mask with a 3D protractor. This will be followed by using the simulation tool to validate the manual calculations and further to analyse results with respect to daylight design in green buildings.

Eligibility

Application is open to candidates from all disciplines but individuals with backgrounds in architecture, planning, engineering are encouraged to apply. This IIHS short course is also open to working professionals with work experience in related fields. Under graduate or Post graduate students can also apply.
