CDD Society is working to provide one million marginalised people with access to water, sanitation and energy by 2015.
From our headquarters in Bangalore, we work through a network of likeminded organisations across South Asia to provide cost effective, environmentally sound, and community specific basic needs services.

Description
Community based sanitation (CBS) is a participatory and bottom-up approach for improving livelihoods and public health through sanitation infrastructure services in poorer and inadequately served urban areas.

Training objective
The objective of this training programme is to introduce social, technical and management skills to professionals for implementing sustainable sanitation solutions like CBS-DEWATS units in communities.

In this context, it aims to impart holistic knowledge on successful project implementaiton, including an understanding of community dynamics, the most driving influences adn parameters, techniques of participation, awareness building and promotion, smooth coordination of stakeholders'intrests and challenges as well as possible soultions during the whole process.

Course outline
- Introduction to CBS: Necessities and problems
- Basics and coherence of waste, sanitation, health and development
- Participatory planning methods: Tools and techniques of community involvement
- Roles and responsibilites of the stakeholders
- Implementation of CBS: Life-cycle, feasibility, technical options, operation and maintenance
- Community awareness, education campaigns and sanitation marketing
- Management of CBS: Action plan, resource allocation and evaluation

Programme overview
The training programme is scheduled for 5 days from October 8 - 12, 2012
English will be the medium of insturction. The sessions are timed from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on each of the training days.
Various methodologies are involved are
- Lectures and presentations
- Case studies and practical workshops
- Study tours and field visits

Participants
The participants should have a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in social work, wastewater, sanitation and/or water resources management.
The course is targeted at practitioners associated with community work on water and sanitation issues form:
- Local government units and public bodies
- NGOs and civil society groups
- Academic institutions
- Other organisations from related sectors

Each participant will be linked with CDD/BORDA's international network, which provides them with access to regular knowledge and skill upgradation. Also, the participants will be awarded a certificate on satisfactory completion of the programme.

Programme fee
The training program is fully residential. The course fee is Rs. 15,000/ for Indian residents and 325 Euros for International participants, which includes boarding and lodging, a training kit, all materials and local travels. The selected participants need to send a DD/Cheque
