Description:

The Kashmir valley, often referred to as Paradise on Earth, is famous for its beautiful mountainous landscape; in recent years though, Kashmir has see rapid environmental degradation. These changes have taken place due to various reasons such as deforestation, melting glaciers, and the depletion of snow cover. This has lead to problems such as shrinking water supply, shrinking water bodies and wetlands, soil degradation, etc. Further, J&K also faces problems such as under utilization of funds, technology inadequacy, lack of education and awareness on environmental problems and lack of government support.

As an effort to overcome these problems and challenges, IYCN (Indian  Youth Climate Network) Kashmir is organizing a two day conference cum fair taking place in the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Center in Srinagar on the 25th and 26th of May 2010.  The conference will invite experts and speakers to talk about existing environmental problems in the Jammu and Kashmir region and possible eco-solutions that meet local needs will be provided by the Green Solution Fair. Participants will comprise companies offering solutions to local problems, NGOs, Universities offering environment related courses and Green Job Placements. Further, sale of eco-friendly products and publications, eco club displays and and buyer-seller meets will take place.

This project is being organized by IYCN in partnership with Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir, J&K Bank, Department of Environment and Remote Sensing, and Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Board, along with many other companies and NGOs.
