National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur, a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi has developed a number of rural based technologies for benefit of the rural community. Some of the developed technologies are “Improved Stove for Indoor Pollution Control”, “NEERI – ZAR” (a low cost water treatment unit), “Rural based unit for recovery of essential oilfrom citrus fruits wastes", "Rapid composting" and "Rural Sanitation System”. It is proposed to hold a meeting of farmer meet including representative of village panchayat to bring the awareness about the environmentally and economically viable rural based processed developed at NEERI for the benefit of rural communities.

This event will provide a common platform for the researches and farmers of the Vidarbha region for understanding the environmental problems with reference to disposal of spoiled oranges, cull fruits and orange peels and to see the demonstration of the developed process which will be useful for improving socio-economic status of the farmers particularly by using rural based unit for recovery of essential oils. Further, awareness on serious indoor pollution due to the use of inefficient cook-stoves and demonstration of improved stove will help to minimize the indoor air pollution problem, thereby improving the health status of the rural community. This farmer's will help in compiling the view of rural sectors with reference to their need and formulation of small budget projects for meeting the requirement of the region falling in the thrust area of CSIR-NEERI.

Director, NEERI will be inviting the orange growers and representatives of panchayat from Vidarbha region for active participation in this event which will help in uplifting the socio economic status vis-à-vis improvement in the quality of life of the rural community.
