About the event

This conference will provide a forum for gardeners from different cities to share with each other their experiences in urban gardening, with a special focus on ‘Community Gardening’. We will have  invited speakers, time for discussions, visits to farms and urban gardens and some work sessions. We are hoping that this conference will bring together serious and avid gardeners from all over India who are interested in taking the movement of urban gardening to a national level. In order to enable representation from multiple states, we will be restricting the number of local participants.

Agenda

The brief agenda for the three days is as follows. More details will be added once the sessions are finalized. Sessions covering the following topics have been planned:

  • Understanding community gardening in the Indian context,
  • Children and urban gardening,
  • Food Safety in urban gardens,
  • Urban garden designing, and
  • Green architecture and urban gardens

Jan 25, Friday
Morning: Inauguration and Opening sessions
Afternoon: Site visits to urban community gardens in Chennai.

Jan 26, Saturday

If you wish to spend more time at Auroville, please consider staying a few more days after the conference and we will be happy to suggest other farms/communities in Auroville that you can visit. For participants from Chennai, we will be organizing these visits later in the year.

Jan 27, Sunday
