Water conservation in industry: A case study of Hindustan Zinc Limited

This presentation describes the work of Hindustan Zinc Limited, in conserving and reducing water consumption in its industrial processes in its plants across the country

This has been possible through initiatives such as effluent treatment, process optimisation of DM Plant operation to reduce regeneration, reduction in evaporation by optimisation of CT fan operation according to heat load, recirculation of vacuum pumps seal cooling water, recirculation of steam condensate, reducing backwash frequency, recirculation of boiler blow down water, optimisation of COC and CR water circulation rate and more.

As a result of these initiatives, significant savings in water consumption were achieved.

This work won the CII-GBC National Award (Within the Fence Category) for Excellence in Water Management in 2008.
