This study of performance of indigenous varieties of rice under conventional and SRI practices was commissioned by National Consortiumof SRI (NCS) to assess and document the experiences of various organizations and farmers in regard to the on-site yield performances of IPVs under the SRI. The results of the study will help to identify specific areas for future action in research and policy on the subject.

The broad objectives of the study are:

  • Developing a database of Indigenous varieties that show promising performance in production under SRI and conventional systems
  • Develop appropriate methods and tools of data compilation and analysis for in-situ assessment of comparative yield performance of indigenous varieties.
  • Comparative study of indigenous varieties with respect to production performance in SRI and other conventional systems
  • Compile farmers' perspectives on the subject.
