Railways stations catering to and around important pilgrimate locations will soon be ‘discharge free’. Coaches in all trains plying along these routes will soon be fitted with modern toilets which will hold the excreta without letting it fall on the tracks. Around 4,000 coaches are expected to be refurbished according to the plan.

The main Buddhist monastery of Tsug-la-Khang in McLeod Ganj has set up special ‘garbage guards’ to look out for persons littering the streets in a bid to keep the tourist spot litter-free. Despite being a prominent location in the Buddhist tourist map, the town has been battling a severe garbage crisis for many years now.

 

The Aam Aadmi Party government is now lending full support to the Centre’s Swachh Bharat Mission and plans to take up an intensive cleanliness drive, starting next month. November 21st and 22nd will witness a large scale overhaul of the garbage profile of the city as part of the cleanliness drive.

 

Aurangabad Corporation plans to integrate efficient solid waste management plans and practices in its Smart City proposals. The Corporation is mulling over setting up spot disposal systems and has appointed a project management consultancy firm to prepare a detailed report. 

 

Coimbatore Corporation has initiated the dumping of organic waste in a separate facility in Vellalore. The dumpyard is expected to handle close to 450 - 500 tonnes of waste in a day collected from households in all wards, restaurants and market places. Soon, its two biomethanation plants are expected to make use of the organic waste to power street lights in the area.
