Proposing a National River Authority of India (NRAI)

Intervening at the urgency of the water situation of the country and need in larger interest of the people and nation from political, legal, social, administrative, commerce,trade,cultural, world tourism angles, apart from agricultural and drinking water angle; annual devastation by floods,and loss by drought. One single Authority, with P.M. as Chairman may hopefully bring expected and good results in river management; riverine rejuvenation - National River Authority of India

Here is a draft proposal for such an authority to be created.

We are looking for collaborations on making this a reality.

National River Authority of India – Bill to be introduced in Parliament for creation of NRAI Act by Parliament in the sixtieth year of the Republic of India.

  • River –a primary national asset, a natural source of life to man, animal, bird, beast ,forest and natural vegetation.
  • Our river system provides potable water, irrigation, transportation, electricity, sports  and adventure, rafting and tourism, and is a source of livelihood.
  • Our river system have value – economic, social and religious.
  • Rivers are Himalayan rivers, interstate rivers flowing into bay of Bengal, Arabian Seas, there are desert rivers and other small rivers.
  • Interlinking of rivers has most important and urgent need.
  • Our important river systems are, Himalayan river system, Peninsular river system, Indus river system, Brahmaputra river system, Narmada river system, Tapti , Godavari, Krishna Kaveri , Mahanadi river system.
  • National River Authority of India Bill be introduced in Parliament , for creation  of  National River Authority of India ( NRAI ) Act by Parliament in the sixtieth year of the Republic of India.
  • Act to provide for the constitution of an Authority for the management, maintenance, cleanliness, upkeep and development of all rivers , connecting rivulets from the Himalayas, through the plains to the seas, across the nation, and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
  • Be it enacted by Parliament in the sixtieth year of the Republic of India.
