Plastic trash fish to highlight coastal pollution at Hyderabad CBD COP

In a fitting contribution to the International Convention on Biodiversity COP-11, set to begin at Hyderabad this Monday, a 3 metre-long, 1.5 metre-tall colourful fish sculpted out of plastic trash that washes out on coasts will greet visitors. The sculpture is meant to highlight coastal pollution and its perils.

All Delhi trains to have bio-toilets by the end of this financial year

Following the successful introduction of bio-toilets in the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Indore Intercity Express, all trains maintained by Delhi Division of the Northern Railways are slated to have bio-toilets or, as they are termed, green toilets. The expansion of bio-toilets will protect tracks from damage due to open discharge and put an end to manual scavenging. Around 3000 toilets will be put up in 750 coaches in the first phase. In the second phase, other Divisions of the Railways will follow suit.

Garbage contractors sabotage Bangalore municipality garbage disposal reforms

Garbage contractors in Bangalore, who had enjoyed a stranglehold over the lucrative business of garbage disposal in the city, are going all out to sabotage the Bangalore municipality's newly-introduced intiatives on garbage disposal. Officials say the contractors are worried about the segregation-at-source and other initiatives  to recycle waste within the City, and are out to defeat the reforms. Some of them are dumping waste lifted from one part of Bangalore city to other prominent places to inconvenience citizens.

Dengue spreads in Delhi, with 33 new cases being reported in single day

Dengue is spreading fast in all parts of Delhi, with the number of affected now at 202. On Sunday, 33 new cases were reported in a single day, the highest number so far ever in a day.
