This document by Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation is on the minutes of the first meeting of sectoral innovation council. It sheds light on the need for innovation in rural water sector. In order to bring in innovation in the sector, domain experts from different organisations were invited to be a part of this meeting, which was participative in nature. To address the issues of sanitation, participants were urged to come up technological solutions both at individual and community level.

Firstly the document acknowledges the progress made by National Rural Drinking Water Supply Programme and Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan and then it moves on to elaborate the key issues discussed during the meeting, which are as follows:

1. Desalination
2. Solar pumped pump
3. Sludge removal in water treatment plants
4. Bio digester
