Forwarded to the Portal by: Latha Bhaskar World Wetlands Day is widely celebrated all over the world to raise awareness on wetland conservation and bring the problems of wetlands in to the public domain. To commensurate this day, we at the Community Environmental Resource Center ( CERC) at Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) are organizing a Wetlands Festival in Alappuzha, Kerala. The program is targeted for the students and other stakeholders of the wetlands of KeralaDr. K.S Manoj, the honorable Member of Parliament will inaugurate the programme at Kalyani Auditorium, Shavakottapalam, Alappuzha on 2nd February 2009 at 10.10 AM. All are invited to kindly participate in this gala event. World Wetlands Day, which is observed on February 2,nd every year, marks the date of signing of the UN Convention on Wetlands, known as Ramsar Convention, which is an intergovernmental treaty which provides framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of the wetland resources.
