The video explores the details of the construction, architecture and resourcefulness and relevance of of traditional talabs, kunds and bavadis of Rajasthan, the tanks of Karnataka, guls of the mountain states, bandharas, tubewells of Maharashtra and argues that these traditional systems were designed taking into consideration the needs of everyone and with a sensitivity to preservation of natural resources.

However, modernisation schemes have served to destroy these traditional management systems by taking control away from people, which have their roots in the colonial times, that served to control and exploit resources. The video puts forth the argument that  water management is not only about technology, but also about governance and the right and control of the local community on technology and natural resources.

The video ends by arguing for the urgent need to restore and revert back to the traditional water harvesting systems to avoid future water scarcity in the country.
