Forest and environment clearance given to 7 new projects in Uttarakhand - Press release by MoEF

The Ministry of Environment and Forests has granted forest and environment clearances to seven projects in Uttarakhand. This meets a long-standing demand of the State.

Members of Parliament from Uttarakhand had a meeting with the Hon’ble Minister for Environment and Forests to discuss the matter. The projects have been appraised and approved by the Ministry’s Environmental Appraisal Committees and the Forest Appraisal Committee, after which the decision has been taken.

The projects that have been cleared include:

  • Collection of stone, boulders and other minor minerals from 1497 ha area in river bed of Gola river till the end of next working season i.e. till 31.5.2012
  • Collection of stone, boulders and other minor minerals from 384.69 ha of forest land located in river bed of Sharda river in Champawat district of Uttarakhand till the end of the next working season i.e. till 31.5.2012
  • Collection of stone, boulders and other minor minerals from 223 ha of forest land located in river bed of Dabka river in Nainital district of Uttarakhand till the end of next working season i.e. till 31.5.2012
  • Collection of stone, boulders and other minor minerals from 254 ha of forest land located in river bed of Kosi river in Nainital district of Uttarakhand till the end of next working season i.e. till 31.5.2012
  • Collection of Minor Mineral (reta, bajri and boulders) from the river bed of River Jakhan-1. The total mine lease area of the project is 195 ha, which is a forest land covering a stretch of 6.4 km length, lying in the Ganga River basin. Out of the total allotted area of 195 ha, the minor mineral collection will be carried out from 50% of the total area i.e. 97.5 ha. The area available for mining would, therefore, be 97.5 ha along the centre of the river flow which is devoid of any flora
  • Collection of Minor Mineral (reta, bajri and boulders) from the river bed of River Jakhan-2. The total mine lease area of the project is 100 ha, which is a forest land covering a stretch of 4 km length, lying in the Ganga River basin. Out of total allotted area of 100 ha, the minor mineral collection will be carried out from 50% of the total area i.e. 50 ha. The area available for mining would, therefore, be 50 ha along the centre of the river flow which is devoid of any flora
  • Collection of Minor Mineral (reta, bajri and boulders) from the river bed of River Song-3. The total mine lease area of the project is 270 ha, which is a forest land covering a stretch of 6.5 km length, lying in the Ganga River basin. Out of the total allotted area of 270 ha, the minor mineral collection will be carried out from 50% of the total area i.e. 135 ha. The area available for mining would, therefore, be 135 ha along the centre of the river flow which is devoid of any flora
