This photo-show by Action for Social Advancement (ASA) introduces us to one the best practices in dug- well management in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh. The tribal communities in Satlana and Bajna regions of the district for a very long period of time have been facing severe water crisis, which has resulted in poverty and migration. In order to solve this problem and ensure availability of water for irrigation and drinking purpose ASA in collaboration with Arghyam started a dug-well project in the region.

Active participation of farmer’s in different stages of the project had enabled them to construct new dug-wells and also revive the old wells. This has helped the tribal community to come out of the vicious cycle of poverty, enabled to reap benefits from the erstwhile fallow lands, gave them an opportunity to cultivate cash crops, arrested the exodus of people to cities.
